RADIO Live @ HK College of Managaement on 10th October '09

The gig at HK College came all of a sudden and is over all of a sudden but I still could not manage to wake up before 7 pm the next day after all the screaming and jumping and frolicking; it was beautiful.
At first the venue didn’t seem like much but the sound set up was beautiful and we had a very supportive sound check and the organizers were sugar sweet. We had to stop sound check a coupl’a times when the nearby masjid had their azaan going on but that didn’t turn out to be a disturbing factor. What really bothered us there was the fact that most of our equipments sounded terribly funny on the stage amps and all we did for about two hours was fuzz play.
But we had to kick off without much delay so well, we toned down to the most acceptable sound and moved on. The crowd was placed miles away at first; I do not like this. Organizers please note, on a show, keep the crowd dead close to the band. They’re not going to beat us or spit on us – but all the more the venue looks filled up and dull off life. So we moved the crowd up front and hit off.
Two songs down and I broke my strings – I think it was after the Mila Humsafar solo; Couldn’t stop so continued playing the next song with a broken guitar. Somehow, managed to drag my riffs on the upper strings and pulled off a slightly rough but groovy Kashmakash and Freedom. That’s when I switched guitars with Sharad.
The sound from there was a little more relaxed. We had a run with our originals and Freedom, Musafir & Maya hit hard as usual. But I think as usual Tere Liye stole everything. I really do enjoy playing that song in colleges with beautiful girls in ‘em – Mithibai, K.J Somaya and no HK. They waved and they grooved and they make the song all the more worth it. Teri Chu is turning out to be much more of a crowd puller that what it was intended to be.
But honestly, I loved the way the crowd supported original hindi rock music. They were with us at every note and we had a lot of fun playing for them.
Hope you guys keep in touch, write to us at radiotheband@gmail.com
Check out our songs at myspace.com/radioreligion and we look forward to seeing you at all our future show.
Stay tuned !!!
Love…RADIO.

Hey watcha been up to ?

I mean what’s the point of having a blog and not blogging. It’s like having a voice and not singing, or having someone who loves you and not be forgiving…or for ****s sake, having a heart but not living.

My friends hate it when I talk in metaphors but to me, they make perfect sense. Like when a girl asked me, “Hey what’s with RADIO these days?” I remembered I hadn’t kept you guys updated. Well, we’re not playing any shows as we’re recording for our first album.

No details about the album or how you get to hear it as of now. But yes, we are recording - day in & out and we’re starting anew with a new sound, new music and new songs. To give you a lowdown we’re done with Mila Humsafar which was the first song we wrote and it sounds really nice, can’t wait to hear what you guys have to say. Then there’s the infamous FREEDOM which caught up pretty fast with Musafir over the past few months. There is Tere Liye and Sawaal which you might have not heard and there is a brand new turn to our music in the form of our newest composition titled ‘MAYA’

I’m not spilling out any more beans for you people but seriously, we love our music, we believe in it. We love reading the mails you guys send us or when you scrap us or ever come across us and tell us that you loved our songs. India needs a rock band man. There are a few of us out here and there are a few of you guys out there. What say we call it a date?

As for the album, we are bound to release it by the second week of August if we stick to our plan or it won’t be delayed much I assure you. And what’s depressing is that you guys don’t write anymore. I mean don’t just send us Musafir mails. Send us more stuff. We’d like to know about you guys…What’ve you been up to? Who you seeing lately? Any disruptions on the J.O.B border or did you see a UFO and didn’t think anyone would believe you if you told them.

Well write to us at radiotheband@gmail.com and we’ll talk about it. Till that time, watch out for more RADIO stuff, more photos, gigs, posters, accessories, t – shirts and lots & lots of music.

With love…stay tuned !

'Melange' Humsafar I'd Say...

Well, the day was 27th March 2009 and the night was RADIO rocking K J Somaiya College. Well, to be frank I never really expected it to be this big a deal. I mean, we’ve played college fests before and expected the same kind of crowd; the one’s that cheer and jump and songs they’ve heard before.
But man….WOW !
To see such amazing euphoria from Management geeks was overwhelming. Well, for those who came in late, let me explain. RADIO performed for the pronites of K. J Somaiya’s management college ka festival ‘Melange’. And here are a list of good things…in fact, wonderful things that happened to us that night.
1. Beautiful sound….Crispi, ma man…you rock big time bro !
2. Really kind people who were organizing the fest.
3. Terrifically pepped up crowd.
4. A small but nicely set out set list.
5. Clean changing rooms.
6. Lots of water.
7. No broken strings.
8. A packet of weed.
Well, these perfect ingredients made up a broth so perfect and exhilarating that somehow the event totally rocked. The crowds were with us on every note, every lyric and every drum beat. The covers got a good response. I guess Govinda came out really well from where I stood, thanks to Alok’s magical groovy bass guitaring and Sharad went all berserk and crazy on the Rock On covers. My guitar sounded really good everywhere…..and the man of the night…..RADIO drummer Jack was fantabulous.
But, as usual…..our original compositions blew the covers high & dry. If you think Musafir is a good song, you should’ve seen ‘em kicking it up to Mila Humsafar, yelling Freedom and swaying to Tere Liye which got it’s hatrick loudest cheer among the other OCs.
It was really nice playing for Melange especially after a few depressing shows. We needed to see such enthusiasm as it stands as proof that we still have people left alive in this city….and RADIO will forever keep playing for ‘em.
Stay tuned.

RADIO - UPDATES

It’s been a while since I opened a brand new Microsoft Word Document to write a blog about RADIO, but here I am and it feels wonderful. Well, for those of you who’ve kept tab of us, we are busy recording our first EP which will be out soon. Well RADIO cut down on its shows to work on its music…took some time off I’d say.
But then, here we are all set…ready and geared up for the 28th of March, 2009 where we will be performing at K.J.Somaiya college pronites from 7 to 9 pm. Pardon me if I’ve gotten the spelling wrong. And yes, RADIO was also interviewed by Radio City’s Rj Veda Vicky who is as adorable as his show. HE called us, said,” come over”, we went and I really don’t remember much of what happened in the studio except loads of singing, screaming and RADIOgiri.
Continuing on the updates, we were part of Channel V’s Launchpad and qualified to the third round but there we lost out to some great bands that came from all corners of India to perform. It was beautiful to see such talent, amazing songs I’d tell you…especially Faridkot, Cassini’s Division and Circus.
And yeah….talking about our music…watch out for RADIO’s latest song FREEDOM, one that is catching up faster than Musafir I’d say. And then there are other songs which we are currently recording. There’s a love song called Tere Liye, then there’s our first ever recorded number Mila Humsafar which you should watch out for, there’s Sawaal and a number of other songs that would make up our first album which I am so anxiously waiting to bring out.
Well, so much more to say to you guys…but will stop here; got work to do…loads of music to create. Keep writing to us at
radiotheband@gmail.com and keep visiting www.myspace.com/radioreligion for updates on our music. So long guys…..stay tuned.
