RADIO Live @ Mithibai, 5th December, 2008

Well here we are again surrounded by the Carnival that brings itself on the arms of winter. It’s been a while and a fantabulous one I’d say for the last time we performed was in February and then Rock On happened and then Exams presented themselves as ardent metaphors of tribulation. But then, big words aside…we’re back…and simply love the sound of those words.
It’s difficult being part of a Rock Band, especially when people love you so much. You have parents waiting to see you become ‘Dream Fin’. You have employment to deal with. You have career to serve. You have hard work to befriend et. al.
But then we got through everything; got back to each other, to music and to RADIO. Well so as I said, here we are, waiting…anxiously for the 5th of December, 2008 when we get back to life. Too long, have we had to wait for something that never stopped calling out to us. We haven’t forgotten the times that made us. We remember writing the lyrics of Mila Humsafar. I remember the first time we coined up the chorus for Tere Liye. I remember when we first played Musafir. I remember seeing the small dim lit tables at Not Just Jazz one evening. I remember the screaming crowds at college fests. I remember shooting for Rock On. I remember seeing ourselves on the Big Screen. I remember seeing our votes go up on My Space and how many mails that followed.
You have been a part of this for some time now. Don’t Stop…koz we’re not stopping. Come down to Mithibai College on the 5th of December 2008 and watch RADIO play live. Take it or not…Musafir is always dedicated to you; not because it’s a great rock song…but for a very simple reason – You loved it…you made us love it…you’ll make the world love it.
Stay tuned…RADIO.

Keep Rocking On !!!!

A lot has been spoken, said and discussed about ‘Musafir’ and Rock On. I stand at the edge where a phase passes by and now RADIO gears up for its live show (one after a long break) in Mumbai around the end of November.

Ask me about what makes up our lyrics or tunes and I’d say, its you. I don’t think anyone would want to play if nobody wanted to listen. Each and every time we doubted the reason we stood for; an Indian Rock band, true to itself, you people came along and made us proud of our decision.

You gave us hope, you gave us freedom, you gave us confidence and you gave us a reason….you gave us our music….you gave us RADIO. Here a just a few moments…that you gifted us…

Till we meet again......stay tuned.....with love.

MUSAFIR - The story behind the song

Well it’s not long since we started out as a band and astonished, surprised and euphoric are we for the response that our song ‘Musafir’ has been getting. Since so many people love the song, I thought I’d write you the story behind it.

Musafir happened a long time ago when RADIO wasn’t even a band. Most of our songs come from our real life experiences and Musafir was written when I was sitting in my college library studying for my Chartered Accountancy examinations.

But there are times in life when we are held down by things. We can’t do what we like, can’t be with people we like, can’t get hold of things we like, can’t go to places we like. The best thing to do at that point in time is to simply close your eyes and dive into imagination. Swim through your every want and desire. In your mind, you are second to no one. If you want money you pluck it out of a tree, if you want fame you grab it from the sky and love….well that doesn’t work with imagination now does it. You still search for it there. You create it; live with it….but it’s never close to you.

Musafir is a song about that place we go to; Where the world is yours, where life is colorful….and where you stand at the edge of happiness waiting for your loved one to come by and make you complete.

“Lagta hain sapno sa jahaan….main ek musafir hoon yahaan.”

Sketch out a dream...

I saw myself on that big screen. We were singing a song we wrote some time ago and it found its way into a big movie. They say when you sketch out a dream and color it with passion it becomes a reality. We have a dream – "To be an Indian Rock Band that the world would fall in love with."

Today a part of that dream came true.

Watch RADIO perform its original 'Musafir' in Rock On at a theatre near you. We're there for a very very very short time, but none the less watch it…for if lyrics that were scribbled in an accounts note book could become a song like this…imagine what else could be done.

Here is a poster of RADIO for youprint it, hang it up on your wall, kiss it, sleep with it – do whatever you want to with it (try not deleting it) but yes…do watch ROCK ON and write back to us at radiotheband@gmail.com / check out our blog at www.radioreligion.blogspot.com / or go to www.myspace.com/radioreligion

ROCK ON - "Musafir" by RADIO

It was early December, 2007 that we got a call from Excel Entertainment. They called us in with any one of our original compositions and we hopped into their office the very next day. This was the time when Rock On was in the making and we had no much clue about it. We handed over our favorite track ‘Musafir’ and the director of the movie Abhishek Kapoor liked it. The very next question was, “Are you guys good on stage?”

Well, yes we bagged a role in a movie – not bad for a band that started out 6 months ago. The month was March and we had our shoots scheduled in Goregaon. They gave us vanities, food, clothes, hair stylists; make up guys, free coffee and what not. The sets were huge and the crowds were too many. RADIO dressed up in its usual ‘hatke’ getup and we were on stage.

‘Clik Clik Clik’ goes the timer, our song is blasting on the speakers and we were just jumping from one corner to the other. I don’t really remember what we did or if we even looked like a band, but entertainment was what we were there for…well, it happened.

So finally we came off stage and saw Shair n Func perform. They were simply amazing and so were Farhan and the rest of the crew. I didn’t get to see Arjun Rampal there though, I guess he wasn’t in that particular scene…but none the less I saw a lot.

Well it’s been months now since we shot and I can’t wait for the movie to release. How often do you get to see four guys who set out to form an Indian Rock Band feature in a movie based on an Indian Rock Band, about 4 guys who form an Indian Rock Band? Wow! Magic…isn’t it?

A LITTLE SOMETHING ABOUT OUR ROCK BAND !

RADIO is an Indian Rock Band that was formed in the year 2007. The four of us came together with an idea of playing songs that were built purely on rock and simplistic guitars, bass & drums and backing our music with lyrics in Hindi. But RADIO stands for much more than simply music. We write about life and its different colors. We know the true meaning of love and pain and how things get better after they’ve gotten worse. So far RADIO has played a list of shows around the city of Bombay and is working on a full length album. For those who haven’t heard our music as of yet, we are ‘dreamers’ and hence we write about aspirations and love. We believe that music can bring about a change in things and in people and that songs may fade away but an idea never does. We are four guys who seek an audience. We aren’t rock stars…neither are we poets or gimmicks. We love playing and wouldn’t mind dying with music as our poison. Well just in case you’re kind enough to read on and know a little more about us, RADIO comprises of Sharad, Terry, Aditya & Alok who play guitars and drums and bass and anything that we can get our hands on. We’ve been playing for years now and writing ever since we remember. Luckily, we all think alike and our songs are about love, hope, freedom and revolution. There’s not much about us that you’d want to read, but RADIO is something you’d want to watch out for. Times are changing…we live in an age where life has much more to it than mere survival. We live each day thinking about yesterday rather than tomorrow. Memories are worth more than gold and dreams are hard to hold on to. It is in these times that an Indian Rock Band asks you to dream on. RADIO is your band…live it!
